Apple is currently testing its own generative AI technology, aiming to compete with ChatGPT and Google Bard. While only a few Apple services currently utilize AI, a fully developed generative AI product is in the works.

The company has started working on applications incorporating this technology, which is set to be available later this year. Apple plans to unveil an enhanced version of Siri, featuring generative AI technology, at WWDC 2024.

Rumors suggest that Apple is developing generative AI technology for Siri, with a potential reveal at WWDC 2024. Siri has fallen behind Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa, lacking contextual understanding and struggling to follow instructions.

Reports indicate a significant improvement in Siri’s functionality in 2024 through iOS 18’s new generative AI features. Apple is rumored to be deeply invested in this field, potentially delivering a finalized service by the year’s end.

According to developer “yuex1122” on Naver, Apple is making progress with generative AI integration into Siri. Gurman has previously mentioned Apple’s efforts to enhance Siri, with a possible showcase at WWDC 2024, and reports suggest improved personalization options and natural conversation capabilities.

The new Siri is expected to function seamlessly across multiple devices, retaining information during transitions from iPhone to Mac. Apple’s significant investment in generative AI extends beyond Siri, encompassing a new “Apple-specific creational service” potentially linked to the Shortcuts app. All these enhancements will be part of Apple’s major iOS 18 launch later this year.

To integrate the upcoming Siri version with existing services, Apple plans to establish linkages, possibly utilizing an API or other technologies. Some AI features might vary based on subscription services, though this aspect is still a work in progress. Apple’s integration of generative AI with Siri in iOS 18 has been a recurring topic, and more details will be shared as they become available.

According to information from developers who spoke with the person managing the tech news aggregator account “yeux1122” on Naver, Apple has recently made advancements in incorporating generative AI into Siri. This involves using a model based on Ajax, which was initially mentioned by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman in July. The updated Siri is said to possess improved natural conversation abilities and enhanced user personalization.

These new features are expected to be accessible across different Apple devices, indicating that the updated Siri will remember and carry over conversation information from one device to another. Additionally, it is reported to introduce a novel “Apple-specific creational service,” potentially linked to the Siri-based Shortcuts capabilities rumored for iOS 18.

Apple is allegedly in the process of establishing connections for the new Siri version to integrate with various external services, likely through an API. The report also hints at some of Apple’s new AI features being influenced by the user’s subscription service status, although the specific details of this aspect remain unclear.

A recent forecast from Deepwater Asset Management similarly predicts that Apple will introduce generative AI to Siri within the current year. While the Naver blog account has a mixed track record in predicting Apple’s plans, it has been accurate in some instances. For example, in March 2022, it correctly revealed details about the third-generation iPhone SE before its official launch. In October of the same year, it also accurately predicted that Apple would postpone the release of the new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models until early 2023.
