Wide-angle and ultra-wide-angle cameras are two types of camera lenses commonly found in smartphones. These lenses offer different perspectives and are designed to capture a broader field of view compared to standard lenses.

Wide-Angle Camera:

  • A wide-angle camera lens has a focal length that is wider than that of a standard lens, allowing it to capture more content in a single frame.
  • The wide-angle lens is versatile and is often used for landscape photography, group photos, and scenarios where you want to include more of the surroundings in the shot.
  • In smartphone specifications, a wide-angle camera is typically labeled with a lower focal length (measured in millimeters) compared to the main camera.

Ultra-Wide Angle Camera:

  • An ultra-wide-angle camera takes the concept of a wide-angle lens even further by having an even shorter focal length, capturing an even larger field of view.
  • Ultra-wide-angle lenses are useful for capturing expansive scenes, large groups of people, or architecture where you want to emphasize the breadth of a subject.
  • In smartphone cameras, the ultra-wide-angle lens is often denoted with an even lower focal length than the wide-angle lens.

The inclusion of both wide-angle and ultra-wide-angle cameras in smartphones provides users with greater flexibility when composing shots. While the main camera is typically used for everyday photography, the wide-angle and ultra-wide-angle lenses allow users to experiment with different perspectives and creatively frame their photographs.

It’s worth noting that the specific focal lengths and features of these cameras can vary between smartphone models, and advancements in technology may lead to variations in terminology and capabilities over time. As of my last knowledge update in January 2022, these terms were commonly used in smartphone camera specifications
